Pressure Testing by Southern Engine Services

land rover engine builds and crankshaft regrinds

We recommend that cylinder heads are always pressure tested after they have been removed, especially if the engine has been overheated or the cam belt has broken.

Oil in the water cooling system or water in the engine sump is a sure sign of gasket failure but should always check to see if the car has a engine oil cooler.

This is the first item that should be pressure checked. If both the cylinder head and oil cooler have been pressure tested then it only leaves the engine block. this is more difficult and requires the engine to removed and stripped for pressure testing.

The engines water cooling system can also be pressure checked but car must be complete head not removed.
